A recent video by a player has highlighted the borderline unplayable experience of Grand Theft Auto Online on previous-generation consoles. Despite its 2013 launch during the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 era, GTA Online's performance can still suffer significantly, even on the relatively more powerful PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles.
The extensive scope of Grand Theft Auto 5 made it a demanding game for systems at its initial release. The PS3 and Xbox 360 versions barely managed to hit their 30fps targets in story mode, with framerates dropping further in GTA Online. While the PS4 and Xbox One versions offered improved performance, the AMD Jaguar CPUs still couldn't achieve a stable 60fps. Fortunately, the "expanded and enhanced" version for PS5 and Xbox Series consoles finally provided enough power for a 60fps target.

In addition to jittery and sluggish framerates, the game's dynamic resolution appears to be at its lowest, resulting in a hazy, aliased image that looks worse due to Reddit's video compression. Notably, at the 33-second mark, the textures fail to load, causing the game to lock up for two to three seconds. This moment likely leaves players wishing for the PS5's fast SSD to help load the textures in time. The chaos continues humorously, with an Oppressor Mk2 zipping by and the player colliding with a police car immediately after.
